Jazz Outreach Initiative continues its efforts to bring awareness and great music to the masses with a new radio show and podcast to air monthly beginning Sunday June 16th at 9am! The show will be hosted by JOI Executive Director, Donny Thompson and will largely feature local jazz composers and their music. Presented in an interview format, listeners will learn about the artist, their inspiration for the music, and be introduced to their featured music.
We're grateful to our first guest for jumping in on our premier episode, Dr. Isrea Butler! Dr. Butler has completed his first full year as Chairman of the UNLV School of Music and is a Grammy® winning lead trombonist with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra. Isrea also occasionally performs with our own JOI Jazz Orchestra.
During the show, you'll learn about Dr. Butler and how he was influenced by his heroes in the recording of this new album, Congo Lament, and we'll hear a few tracks from this outstanding production!
"The JOI of JAZZ" is JOIfully underwritten by D'Agostino's Trattoria Italian Restaurant. Locally family owned and run, D'Agostino's serves scratch favorites, handmade pastas, salads, desserts, and a great wine list in a relaxed, welcoming, and intimate setting. Dinner Reservations Tues-Sun at (702) 248-7048.
