Tickets are selling fast for this new holiday tradition, a swingin' twist on a holiday classic as Jazz Outreach Initiative's JOI Jazz Orchestra returns for its 2nd annual presentation of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's "Nutcracker Suite!" The concert will also feature rousing renditions of big band holiday classics along with GRAMMY® nominated celebrated headliner and long time JOI supporter, Clint Holmes!
Many don't know that Ellington/Strayhorn composed the score to "The Nutcracker" while the Ellington band was in residency at Las Vegas's own Riviera hotel in 1960. A hit when released that year by Columbia Records, the piece fell into relative obscurity for many years and here in Las Vegas was even more rarely performed. The JOI Jazz Orchestra is proud to offer our local fans this exciting alternative to the many more traditional presentations of Tchaikovsky's holiday masterwork! And we'll have a couple of fun surprises lined up to make the evening's entertainment even more memorable!
