The Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra is comprised of diverse and talented students from middle school through high school (currently as young as 11) from across Southern Nevada. The band is entering its second full school year after being founded in spring 2020. JOI's professional team of mentors (professional luminary jazz musicians and educators who also perform as 1st call musicians and members of JOI's big band, the JOI Jazz Orchestra) work in sections and individually with the students. JOI also hosts world-class clinicians who are brought in from jazz institutions and universities. And the band is lead by JOI Co-Founder and V.P. Education & Programming, Gary Cordell with Founder and Artistic Dir., Kenny Rampton joining via Skype when on tour with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
You'll also see both the honors combo and the full Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra big band perform with Jonathan Karrant at his Sunday Funday concert, Sunday Sept 11 at Notoriety. Tickets still available for that through the Notoriety Live website.
